Dual Diagnosis Treatment
What are dual diagnosis?

Mental health disorders propel many people on a path to drug addiction as a way of self-medication. A substance abuse problem combined with a mental health disorder is defined as a Dual Diagnosis.
The origins for most drug and alcohol addiction abuse can be traced back to:
- Depression
- Anxiety Disorders
- Bi-Polar Disorders
However, mental health disorders are not always the catalyst for substance abuse.
Domestic and social problems often push a person to start abusing drugs
or alchohol, which then leads to mental health problems.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment Program
Dual Diagnosis clients at Florida Center for Recovery are treated by highly qualified
mental health and addiction professionals by integrating both traditional
as well as alternative therapies. Our integrated treatment recognizes that
substance abuse counseling and traditional mental health counseling differ
in their approach to treatment, and alternative methods are reconciled to
treat co-occurring disorders. For example, it is not enough to teach relationship
skills to a person with bipolar disorder. We must also teach them to how
to avoid the relationships that are intertwined with their substance abuse.
Dual diagnosis treatment includes different types of assistance that go
beyond standard therapy or medication: assertive outreach, family counseling,
even money and relationship management. Personalized treatment is considered
long-term therapy, and can begin at whatever stage of recovery the individual
is currently experiencing. Positivity, hope, and optimism are at the foundation
of integrated treatment.
